Recently the Spanish coast has enjoyed tremendous economic development and success. In only fifty years it has become one of the most densely developed 'cities' in Europe due to the occurrence of a series of co-existing factors that make it a unique and attractive destination: sun, sea, food, freedom, affordability. In spite of these advantageous resources, both natural and man-made, this area has been criticized for its mono-cultural behavior, disregard of history, lack of taste, and total ignorance of ecological responsibility. Architects MVRDV examine these phenomena and present their conclusions and investigations regarding the past, present, and future of the region. |
